Question: If I want to read this story, do I have to use Kindle? I had a really bad experience the only time that I used that reader.

You don’t have to use a physical Kindle E-reader. You can also read this story using free Kindle software on my PC. That’s what I do.
I can make my written works available for sale on other platforms such as E-junkie which I have done for several stories. However, if I do that then they are not available to people who subscribe to Kindle Unlimited. Kindle Unlimited requires that its stories be Amazon exclusives. Therefore, if I move a story I may gain customers on E-junkie while also losing customers on Kindle Unlimited.
