Interview with Angel, Size Fantasy Artist Who Loves Big Things Messing with Little Things

Angel created this artwork, “Aaron – All in a Day’s Work,” to accompany Expander’s “Extraction Industries Inc.

Angel has been drawing and writing about giants and giantesses for over 17 years! She posted many photo montages and stories at Coiled Fist beginning with “The Tribe,” a tale of destruction based on a roleplay session. Additionally, her first giantess doodle, “A Big Kiss,” appeared on DeviantArt in March 2014. In 2022 Angel released the first chapter of “Giantlands.” That comic features a world of giant men used as weapons by rival gangs in a post-apocalyptic setting. The art and story certainly impressed me and earned a spot on my Top Ten of 2022 list. Furthermore, chapter 2 was recently released in May 2024! I am looking forward to picking up a copy for myself. Fans can follow Angel on Twitter and via DeviantArt on two separate pages, one dedicated to giantesses and the other for giants. Furthermore, they can purchase Giantlands via Gumroad or buy Angel a coffee via Ko-fi.

#1) Can you tell the readers a little about yourself?

Well, around these parts I go by Angel. I’m just your typical gal into typical things like tiny civilizations falling under the mercy of gigantic body parts. I’m a lot more low-key than a lot of giantesses in our circles, as ironically, I can be a painfully shy dork. I’ve bounced in and out of the online size community for longer than I’d like to think about. Made a lot of treasured connections. Over the years I’ve dabbled in writing stories, role-playing and collage making as a hobby. It felt great to be able to share this interest with like-minded humans across the globe (in that it made me feel a little less crazy to know there were a lot more crazies out there). After life threw more than a few hurdles my way, I started to do size art commission work. I was an art major and always loved illustrating, and to this day, that’s what helps me pay the bills.

Outside of the macro love, I enjoy a lot of couch-related activities like movies, stream shows, World of Warcraft (yes people still play it), popcorn of any kind and daydreaming.

#2) How did you first become interested in giant people?

The interest with giant/tiny things has been inside me for as long as I can remember. It’s near impossible to pinpoint one thing. As a kid, I used to gravitate towards the episodes of cartoon shows that had some kind of growing or shrinking theme. For reasons I couldn’t explain at the time, I loved anything with giant monsters, robots, people — always craving more interaction than mainstream would ever show. Being a female of the species, my resulting responses of… excitement, were a bit less obvious to young me. It was only when I was older and I found all this stuff (macro) on the internet that I was awakened to the fact that I really, really liked it. As in much more than a friend.

#3) What are a few of your favorite works from other creators?

I don’t circulate as much as I used to, but on the writing side, I’ll always be a fan of Grildrig’s destructive giantesses. And Expander’s destructive giant dudes. Did I mention I love destruction?

I’ve too long a list of size art creators who I admire, each for varying reasons. And really, I appreciate anyone who’s ever put part of themselves out there and shared something. Sounds like a pageant answer, but I know firsthand the anxiety around posting that first drawing, that first picture or first render, not knowing how it’s going to go, but doing it anyway.

#4) How would you describe your art and stories?

I tend to lean towards my personal love for mega-sized destruction in both my art and stories. Though I also sprinkle in various macro themes I enjoy, smashies and fun with tiny toys are my constant staple. As far as my current art style, I fondly think of it as a mutant blend I call Disnime.

#5) Do you have any advice for people who want to create their own size fantasies?

People say it a lot, but create for yourself first. There are times it’s difficult to decide on an idea, and it’s fine to ask an audience what they’d like to see/read, to get some inspiration. But you’ll make your best work working on a thing you personally enjoy. And ‘getting better’ isn’t simply a matter of inherent talent, it’s a matter of time and practice.

#6) When can we expect Giantlands 3?

Aaahh… I’ve no set date at the moment. Ideally I’d like to target the end of the year or early 2025. I’ve been smoothing out the script and finalizing ideas for the chapter (and the possible 1 or 2 parts that follow it). Unfortunately I do need to weave this work in between commissions and other projects, BUT Giantlands is my baby and I intend to keep it going until I’ve shared my tale. Besides, there aren’t nearly enough male giant focused comics around in the world!

Thank you for doing this interview!

Disney’s Alice in Wonderland or the 70’s Superfriends DC cartoon? Which one was the bigger gateway to size content?

For me it was Superfriends and its many size-changing episodes episodes like “The Fifty Foot Woman” featuring antagonist “Amy Zonn” 😉
