Interview with Midas-Bust, Creator of Bombshell Soda!

Midas-Bust is a prolific and talented artist who has drawn over eight hundred images featuring beautiful women growing larger and more powerful. These drawings have covered a diverse range of themes including, but not limited to, breast expansion, building-destroying height increase, and female muscle growth. Numerous single-page images have been created as well as several size-fetish comics. Midas-Bust is probably most famous for the “Bombshell Soda” comic. That illustrated series began in late January 2017 and amassed more than sixty pages as of its conclusion in mid-February 2020. It can be read in full, for free, at DeviantArt! That also led to a spin-off called “Bombshell Soda: Resurgence.” Fans can commission Midas-Bust via DeviantArt or Twitter and can support them via Ko-fi and Patreon.

#1) Can you tell the readers a little about yourself?

Well, I was born in California. At a young age I moved to Texas, where I’ve lived most of my life. I’ve always been interested in art as a creative outlet. As a kid I participated in a lot of art camps and after-school classes and learned about a lot of different traditional mediums like painting, sculpting, charcoal sketching, knitting, weaving, collage, and even stamp making. I even entered and placed pretty high in a few young artist competitions. Throughout high school I taught myself how to use Photoshop and Flash, but never really stuck with them. It wasn’t until I started college that I really started to find myself as a digital artist. During that time I got really into the Original Character Tournament scene on DeviantArt. For those who don’t know, an Original Character Tournament, or OCT for short, is a story telling competition where you create an original character to fit in with the tournament’s theme and worldbuilding and then tell a story usually through comics in a series of rounds where you a pitted against another OC who must feature in your story. I entered several back in the day and had so much fun. Shortly after my last OCT was when I created a new account and began uploading NSFW pics.

That was around the end of my time at college. Speaking of college, I’ve got a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts and Technology, but I haven’t had the chance to really use it since I graduated. I spent most of my time in college learning a little from a lot of different creative areas including 3D Modeling, Animation, Sound Design, Game Design, Traditional Arts, and Creative Writing. Currently, I make a living partially from the money I make through my art online. I also do occasional freelance creative jobs for local contacts I’ve met over the years. Things like painting logos on windows or creating graphics for work projects. I once got paid to create an animated logo for a TV commercial. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to support myself on creative jobs alone and for the last few years I’ve worked part-time as a manager at a movie theater in order to stay afloat. One day I hope to earn enough from my art to fully support myself on that alone.

#2) How did you first become interested in buff ladies and giantesses?

I’ve always been interested in giantess growth content, but didn’t start drawing it a lot until I worked on “Bombshell Soda”. I can trace my attraction to giantess growth (and breast expansion) back to the early 2000’s when I saw the movie “Dude, Where’s My Car?” for the first time. It was a silly stoner comedy with a lot of really dumb jokes and I watched it dozens of times. There’s a scene near the end, where a woman grows into a giantess and it changed the course of my life forever. Later in life I would come across scenes from “Gen 13” and “Jungle de Ikou” that also contributed heavily to my interest in giantess growth. My interest in female muscle is a lot more of a recent development as far as fetishes go. The first drawings I posted under the username Midas-Bust didn’t really feature any muscle or giantess content. There were a few pin-ups with a hint of abs, but not much more than that. When I first started drawing NSFW content, breast expansion was my main interest. While I was working on my first major comic at the time, “Bombshell Soda ”, I started branching out into other types of growth to see for myself if I enjoyed them and to reach a broader audience. I believe the first time I drew muscle growth was during a short comic I worked on entitled “Wishful Thinking”, but it wasn’t until I drew it in “Bombshell Soda” that I really started to find that I enjoyed it. After that I would draw female muscle growth content more and more until I joined Twitter and really committed to it, after I found a lot of success posting my FMG content on the platform. It was on Twitter that I met most of the friends I currently have in the FMG community and really found myself as a female muscle artist. Before Twitter, during my DeviantArt days I don’t think I would ever have defined myself as a muscle artist, but I definitely do now.

#3) What are a few of your favorite works from other creators?

I’m a huge fan of several big artists in the NSFW community. Most notably, JollyJack and Lemonfont. Both of their comics really inspired a lot of my work and JollyJack’s werewolf girls are probably the reason I love drawing werewolf girls myself. There have been plenty of other artists that I’ve looked up to during my journey as an NSFW artist, but If I listed them all we’d be here all day. I do however want to mention AmateurUnleaded (@AUnleaded on Twitter) who has been a great friend and a wonderful source of inspiration and support for a while now. Their art is fantastic and is possibly one of the reasons I really embraced drawing more female muscle. I was aware of their art long before I really started talking to them. They’ve really inspired me and a few conversations we’ve had have directly led to some of my best drawings.

#4) How would you describe your own art?

Oh, that’s a tough question. I don’t like to use the word “cartoonish”, but it is a somewhat accurate description of my artwork. I like to say that my art is stylized, but that’s a pretty broad term that could really mean anything. My art style is a bit more simplified than I’d like, but over the years I’ve learned to embrace it and the hallmarks that make it unique. My art has definitely gone through a fair few evolutions since I started and I do like to track my progress by redrawing old images now and then to mark the differences. The stuff I draw now feels a lot more rounded and cohesive than the big-eyed, goofy characters I drew when I started, but they still feel like they came from the same place. I feel like my fans could recognise my art even if my name wasn’t on it.

#5) What are the rewards given to Patreon supporters?

To be completely honest, I don’t have any very enticing rewards on Patreon. Pretty much all of my art can be viewed for free on any of the platforms I post on. I never really wrapped my head around the idea of a paywall for my content. When I draw something I want everyone to see it and react to it. I earn way more money from commissions anyways. So, for now, my Patreon is largely a place for people to support me if they can’t afford to pay for a commission. There are a few perks to being a patron like getting to help me decide on the periodic Fan Art drawings I do, getting entered for occasional free art, and joining an exclusive discord channel on my Discord Server. Ultimately, I prefer to earn money through commissions. That way you get something unique and I get to draw something fun and sexy.

#6) Any upcoming projects you’d like to mention? Will Bombshell Soda return?

Right now, the only major project I’ve been working on is “Bombshell Soda: Resurgence”, a sort of reboot of the original Bombshell Soda comic. I know how much people loved the original, but I didn’t want to continue from where it ended since I kinda wrote myself into a corner. This time around I’ve been trying to really focus on the growth scenes and tell a more in-depth story. New pages have been coming out a bit slower than the original, but I hope their quality makes up for it.
