Tribute to Vivian, Giantess Artist Extraordinaire

Good morning everyone,

Today I want to pay tribute to a talented creator who left us far too soon. Vivian was an artist in mainland China with a penchant for depicting tiny individuals (be they aliens, magical beings, or time travelers) pleasing bound women a hundred times their size. She used Adobe Photoshop and PaintTool SAI to bring these fantasies to life.

Often the woman were regular human sized, but occasionally they would jump up to skyscraper size. Although, Vivian was not a growth fan per se. She did not devote dozens of pages to the growth process unlike Chelgi, DNAPalmhead, or ZZZ. Instead, only one or two panels depicted the transition from regular to giant sized. Then the remaining panels showed the woman at a constant giant size, as shown below.

Above panels taken from The Earth.

Additionally, these giantesses (never giants) rarely rampaged. Vivian’s female titans normally did not destroy cities or swallow people en masse. Although, on occasion they did engage in widespread violence such as in Commensalism where giant female warriors fought opposing armies.

Drugs which made people extra-horny were included in many of these illustrated stories. Lin, her first comic from 2010, featured an aphrodisiac called AJG-516 which was renamed and reappeared in A-516 Universal Sex Education along with a similar drug called love-lock. A-516 also popped up in Red Pond Village, Vivian’s last comic published in early January 2020. Virgin Master of Heavenly Mountains featured the Seed of Tantalize which allowed a woman to take “whole control of her libido.” Her comic called The Earth had a powerful otherworldly being who toyed with human females and turned one woman’s feet into erogenous zones which filled with sensation that “equals the power of five clitoris [sic].” Overall, Vivian portrayed hypersexual women who were unashamed of their passionate desires. There is a lesson for all of us not to be embarrassed by our intense and atypical fetishes.

Many times minuscule invaders were so small compared to the women that feminine orifices were like great caverns. The tinies would scamper and rush inside on foot or fly jet scooters and space ships inside women’s bodies.

Vivian’s first comic was Lin in October 2010. In mid-February 2011 she produced the first installment of her longest and most famous series Commensalism. By the way, Merriam-Webster defines commensalism as “a relation between two kinds of organisms in which one obtains food or other benefits from the other without damaging or benefiting it.”

Commensalism takes place in Atlantis where descendants of Mother Earth or Gaia serve as protectors of humanity. These protectors are loosely based on Greek gods (like Aphrodite, Ares, Artemis, Athena, Hades, and Zeus) and have a related superpower. Additionally, one of Athena’s military leaders was also based on a Greek mythological figure, namely Medusa.

Medusa’s super speed was a clever interpretation of the traditional “turn people into stone” ability.

Protectors each ruled one of ten kingdoms or city-states on Atlantis in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean between North America and Europe. It is the year 999 and only a year remains before Gaia will return after a millennium absence. Athena, the 21-year old Princess of Olympus, wishes to conquer Atlantis before Gaia’s return. Thus, she wages war. The plot of the first issue involves Athena’s army striving to capture Artemis, ruler of Esmit. Athena has the ability to absorb other protector’s abilities so she desires to steal Artemis power.

Gianlin (referring to the Chinese 巨人 meaning giant) served in Athena’s army, but possessed only animal-like sub-human intelligence. Artemis has the ability to transfer souls and leveraged that power to put her mind in the body of an enormous blonde gianlin. Thus, issue #2 featured a battle between a blonde giantess and Athena. No need to disclose more details. Giantess fans should seek out a copy and read Commensalism for themselves.

In addition to sexy gigantic women Commensalism incorporated dramatic tension. There was an honest struggle over who would win the battle. There was a real question of whether or not the main character would succeed. Vivian did an excellent job adding conflict into the narrative. Something which sadly cannot be said of most giantess comics.

This feedback on Commensalism #3 appeared on the old GiantessKatelyn.com website which has since been revamped. Thankfully, this comment lives on thanks to the Wayback Machine.

Beginning in October 2010 Vivian’s comics, such as Lin, were sold at GiantessKatelyn.com, but Vivian later opened her own E-junkie store in 2011. Of course, that storefront has since gone defunct. In the middle 2010s Vivian also had GiantessLove.com which sold not just her own comics but those of her collaborators.

There was a long hiatus, over six years, between the release of Commensalism #4 in late September 2012 and the release of Commensalism #5 in early January 2019. Toward the end of that extended break Vivian launched a Patreon which as of this writing still exists in a caretaker status as a partial archive. Patreon supporters enabled the renewal of the Commensalism series and breathed new life into Vivian’s creative efforts.

Alas, the fifth issue was never completed and the last panel, seen on the left and first posted in mid-March 2019, was quite the cliffhanger. It shows an unconscious human-sized Athena as her body is menacingly lowered into the gaping maw of a gianlin. By the way, the gianlin was one of four who were miniaturized, stuffed into a magic ball, then thrown into battle a la a Pokemon trainer. That was a cool touch in my humble opinion.

Despite the renewed effort Vivian was troubled by personal health issues in May 2019. Other complications included a late November Internet lockdown in China and then Vivian’s father was hospitalized that December. Early 2020 saw several pages of Red Pond Village which at the time were only in Mandarin Chinese, but have since been translated into English elsewhere.

Sometimes Vivian created the story while others created the art. That was the case with Interplanetary Wrestling, shown above, which Maskray drew and Vivian wrote.

Vivian formed a team under the name VVmax studio. Among them were artist Coolate who drew the three issues in the Anna series. Coolate also made the art for the first chapter of Time-travel hunters (later renamed Time Hunters) while Kaser did chapters 2 and 3. Additionally, Vivian wrote stories drawn by Maskray. She also sold a fun comic at E-junkie called Zombie School by Volcano-Poplar in which a busty cheerleader stomps hordes of bug-sized undead.

This snippet appeared on the last page of Lin Chapter 4 published in November 2014.

Sadly, Vivian was hospitalized due to the Corona virus, COVID-19, on February 10, 2020. She passed away on February 17th at 3PM China Standard Time (CST). Her final words were “Don’t be afraid.” She left behind a husband and a son after making one last drawing to comfort her loved ones.

Unfortunately, there is no single place to find Vivian’s complete body of work. Vivian’s DeviantArt page contains more than 50 drawings. Reol maintains Vivian’s Patreon which fans can join for a dollar and download much of her art, including all the issues of Commensalism. Be advised that a few posts, like Lin Plus, are locked. I am currently a Patreon member, but still cannot access such posts.

However, people have uploaded Vivian’s works to other sites such as E-Hentai Galleries. There fans can find most of her comics. Normally, I would not point people toward such places, but credit where credit is due that site is preserving her body of work. Furthermore, fans have translated a few comics into Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. This is not to excuse situations in which E-Hentai shares art without permission thus preventing artists from earning money from their hard work. Nonetheless, E-Hentai is providing a service not just in this particular instance, but also by preserving comics from other absent creators like Drake Letcher and Ed Lundt.

Numerous artists like Giantess Tina, Jukes, Rserg2, and Tim Ursaminor cited Vivian as one of their favorite creators. Ursaminor wrote:

I really liked Vivian’s comic book work (RIP). The concept of a submissive, highly-sexual mega giantess was something rarely seen in the giantess world. Most giantesses are monstrous, cruel, heartless creatures completely in control, but these women were sexy, with lots of pubic hair and erect nipples that wanted to be tied up or played with in some fashion. The contrast of someone so powerful being helpless was interesting.

I too love Vivian’s surprising mix of overwhelming strength with consensual submission. Her giantesses appear more than capable enough to overpower their minuscule masters. Yet, they willing permit their bondage. That is an underexplored theme and I enjoy seeing it explored whether by Vivian or by modern artists such as Sihagen.

I am saddened that disease took Vivian from her family and friends. Patreon and Twitter was filled with testimonies of her many contributions to the size community as well as reports of her decency, kindness, and generosity. Vivian’s stories will remain forever incomplete. Yet, we can take comfort in the fact that her legacy will endure and continue to inspire others. To quote Reol, “Vivian still continues to live on through her artwork, and the artwork of her successors.

Vivian’s husband Helix drew this commemorative piece.

I was heartbroken when she passed. I followed her reports as she was one on the early cases of COVID-19, how she kept her spirits up as her condition worsened. Nobody knew what was going on in the early days, and then she was gone.

And some people in the Size community, their reaction was awful. Ryukison directed me to a discussion among some Twitter users who rationalized that pirating her work should be open game after her death. No basic respect, just a lust that overrode any trace of humanity.

I read those tweets doubting that she actually died and trying to rationalize theft, but did not want to indulge those assholes by mentioning them. Every community has parasites. I seriously doubt they paid for her art when she was alive.

Of course not. There’s an element that craves this stuff, but the thought of compensating an artist for what they desire is somehow offensive. Pirates who prey on indie artists are scum, somewhere between algae and people who enjoy puns.
